Reading time: just over 3 minutes.
A lot of my clients ask me for class recommendations. In a city where new studios pop up every other week, the choice can be overwhelming – especially when most studios offer introductory deals and you basically end up stacking up seven classes in seven days (something we talk about in my latest podcast as well).
Apparently a new studio is popping in the list among the new favourites.
Welcome One LDN Tower Hill.
First and foremost, it is damn convenient.
Really close to Shoreditch (where we are mainly based), the studio focuses on only three classes (which in itself is dead simple and effective): Boxing Muay Thai, Hip Hop Hot Yoga and S&C.
As S&C is my bread and butter, I had to try the Muay Thai Boxing.
Back in the day I used to practise kick boxing (my teacher was big on Muay Thai as well, so I could see the influence) so since moving to London I have been desperate to find good classes really focusing on technique over flashy selfies and cool HIIT sequences.
Do not get me wrong; there is a place for those.
However, for me boxing is more about drills, old school sit ups and pad work.
This is where One LDN Muay Thai had me hooked. An hybrid between the old basement gyms and the boutique boxing experience, when you boxe you boxe. you do not boxe yoga or pilox – may be fun for the first ten minutes, but to be honest I probably won’t be jabbing after my downward dogs thank you very much.
Yes, we did burpees and mountain climbers (conditioning ya all), but we also did routines and pad works.
If you have done boxing before, an intense boxing and kicking session will work on your cardiovascular fitness, co-ordination, balance and strength. I’ll definitely have that over running, please and thank you.
I am always extremely excited to find a place that really satisfies my cravings which means, yes, I’ll be back for more.
…and yes, I’ll see you in the ring.
Disclaimer: I did go through some opening hot yoga straight after the class – that may have helped with finding my Zen and opening up.
